Can Architects Work from Home? 5 Apps to Make Teleworking Easier

Updated: Mar 14

Can architects work remotely? Today we want to share with you 5 apps to make teleworking easier.

These days, millions of people are being forced to telework as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19). Currently, according to Eurostat data, only 3% of Spanish employees work from home regularly, far from the 15% reached by other countries like Finland, Luxembourg or the Netherlands.

As we can see, few companies still promote teleworking. However, large firms are increasingly implementing telecommuting considering the benefits in this new kind of working. To mention a few:

- Cost reduction because of the unnecessary need for a physical workspace.

- Improved fulfilment and worker productivity.

- Better conciliation of work and family life.

- Benefits for the planet by reducing the pollution caused by transportation to work.

By using these 5 digital platforms, you won't have to worry about having a physical space to continue working when unexpected situations arise. You will eventually realize that you can even turn these obstacles into new opportunities to work more efficiently.

Asana

Asana is the work management platform we use to track goals, projects, and daily tasks.

Slack

Slack is our choice for internal communication. This app allows us to have one conversation for each project, assigning different work teams within our organisation.

Milanote

Milanote is the tool we use to organize our ideas and projects into visual boards. We find it very useful to create mood boards and getting feedback from clients. You can add sticks around the boards and even attach files to them. If we were in a traditional architectural office, this would be like laying a plan on the table and bringing the people around to discuss.

Skype

We use Skype to replace regular face to face meetings. It even allows having many people talking simultaneously which is great to avoid the time wasted in transportation to a physical place.

Blackboard

Blackboard is the tool chosen to present our reports to the team. Just upload your document and invite your colleagues to join.

Bonus: If you miss the office life, Virtway Events is your tool: a platform where each employee is an avatar who can interact with colleagues in scenarios that have been virtually recreated.
